NAHBS Welcomes Global Cycling Network to the 2019 Show

GCN to share the NAHBS experience with its community of 3.3 million people, including 1.6 million YouTube subscribers

The North American Handmade Bicycle Show, taking place March 15th-17th in Sacramento, is pleased to announce that one of the cycling industry’s largest and most popular media networks, Global Cycling Network, will be attending this year’s show, reporting on the best bikes, brands, and builders on the show floor. GCN boasts a community of 3.3 million people, including 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube and 22 million video views per month across all platforms, and will be bringing an array of NAHBS news and coverage to its followers and viewers.

Headquartered in the UK, Global Cycling Network covers it all, including tech news, instructional how-to videos, in-depth interviews, and coverage of the most iconic professional cycling events, along with their popular weekly news bulletin, The GCN Show. While the network’s content tends to be predominantly road cycling-related, the channel occasionally creates videos on cyclocross and mountain biking, mostly covered on GCN’s sister channel, Global Mountain Bike Network.

“Visiting NAHBS has been on our radar for a long time, so we're super excited to be heading out to see such a collection of the world's most creative and advanced bicycle craftsmanship, all in one place,” said Katherine Moore, GCN’s Audience Development Manager. “We love the diversity of bike disciplines that are represented at NAHBS, as well as construction methods, and look forward to getting to know the people behind the bikes and brands in Sacramento.”

Don Walker, founder and president of NAHBS, added, “We are extremely excited to have Global Cycling Network at this year’s show. While NAHBS has always attracted prominent media outlets and journalists, GCN’s global reach is unparalleled. We know their audience will be blown away by the world-class craftsmanship and artistry on display at NAHBS, and will be equally inspired and entertained by the unique stories of the builders that are the heart and soul of NAHBS.”

In addition to the high-profile media that will be attending NAHBS, the show is attracting more retail buyers thanks to its new “early-access” program, which gives qualified buyers from bicycle retailers free admission to the show each day. Qualified bicycle retailers and shops are able to secure a free buyer voucher (one buyer per store) by filling out this form here.  The NAHBS show hall will open one hour prior to consumer show hours, exclusively for retail buyers and attending media.

This year marks the show’s 15 year anniversary and it's the third time in NAHBS history that its being held in Sacramento. Historically, Sacramento has always been one of NAHBS’ strongest locations.

** Beware of Hotel Solicitors/Scammers **

Attention NAHBS Exhibitors,

** Beware of Hotel Scammers **

It’s come to our attention that there are some hotel “booking” companies contacting NAHBS exhibitors on the pretense that they are affiliated with the show and can offer special discounts and deals on hotel bookings in the Sacramento area.

These companies are NOT affiliated with NAHBS nor have we shared any contact information with them.

We suggest ignoring or deleting these emails and also blocking the email sender so you don’t hear from them again. An example of one of these scam emails is below:

Builder News: #CustomSILCA Award for NAHBS 2019

Calling all NAHBS 2019 Builders!

We’re excited to announce that the #CustomSILCA award is coming back to NAHBS 2019. As a brand that has been making bicycle tools for over a century, SILCA products are regularly featured on builds of every cycling discipline. The #CustomSILCA award recognizes the handmade frame builder who best incorporates SILCA product into their NAHBS build.

SILCA is pleased to offer NAHBS builders new products to customize, special discounted pricing, and free customization on their SICURO Titanium Bottle Cages (must purchase two or more for your build). The selected winner will receive ten of SILCA's brand new Ypsilon Home Kits that they'll customize with your logo or artwork.

To enter the contest, builders must feature a SILCA product on their NAHBS build at the 2019 show. SILCA will judge the builds for this award and will consider the paint job, the number of SILCA products incorporated into the build, creativity, and the overall quality of the full build.

The inaugural #CustomSILCA Award in 2018 was a great success and we're excited to announce its return for NAHBS 2019. Place your SILCA order soon to ensure there's enough time to bring your idea to life.

** Builders can contact Daniel Bartholomew at for a price list and to place an order. **

SILCA was founded in 1917 by Felice Sacchi outside of Milan, Italy. SILCA was the first company to put gauges on pumps, the first to produce a true ‘high-pressure’ frame pump and the first to work with revolutionary lightweight material plastic after the end of WWII, and later the first to bring CO2 to roadside inflation. Today SILCA is located in Indianapolis, IN where it continues to build iconic products that utilize the finest materials and craftsmanship available.

A Reflection on the End of Interbike

For the cycling industry as a whole, the news of Interbike's 2019 cancellation is unfortunate and reflects the challenges and changes that we all face in the industry. We feel for all of the businesses and organizations that rely on Interbike to grow and support their ventures. We, along with several established and reputable shows, are here as alternatives and I am confident that we will all do everything we can to support the businesses, non-profits, and organizations currently figuring out what their 2019 plans might now look like.

NAHBS is the world’s largest and most innovative show for handmade bicycles and was built on the foundation of bringing consumers, commerce, and media together. While the greater cycling industry is experiencing some big changes, the experience that NAHBS offers its key stakeholders -- builders, component manufacturers, brands, media, and consumers -- is stronger than ever.

NAHBS has kept itself fresh by traveling to a different market each year, taking seriously the feedback from long term partners and consumers when making those decisions. As a result, we continue to attract the best and brightest global builders and supporting brands, while constantly asking ourselves how we can do it better.

Our 2018 show in Hartford, CT, our first foray into the Northeast, was one of the best attended shows in our 15 year history. For 2019, our third time in Sacramento, we currently have over 140 exhibitors confirmed and recently expanded our floor space to meet the growing demand. Additionally, we’ve altered the show hours to make it easier on vendors during setup/strike, and for consumers trying to attend the first day of the show. We’ve also added media specific hours at the beginning of each day, and for the first time, we are granting early access to retail buyers who want to meet with exhibitors in a more private setting. And lastly, as a non-union partner, many of the normal costs associated with attending a show simply do not exist in Sacramento.

While we’ll miss seeing our friends and colleagues at Interbike, for NAHBS the show goes on. We’re excited to celebrate our 15th year anniversary in sunny Sacramento, March 15-17, 2019.

If you’ve already signed up or are planning to attend, we look forward to seeing you there.

If you’re a builder or brand and think NAHBS might be a good fit for you, you can learn more on our website or feel free to contact me at anytime at

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of NAHBS.
- Don Walker, Founder & President of NAHBS
