The story of the most famous steel tubes in the history of cycling began in 1919 when Angelo Luigi Colombo founded his steelery with the ambition to “to do business in iron and steel and make a fair and honest profit,”.
In the 1930s Colombo created the name Columbus for cycling specific tubes: producing the first reinforced tubes with a tapered thickness made of molybdenum chrome steel in the history of cycling, as well as the first cold-rolled elliptical fork blades.
In 1977 Antonio Colombo separated Columbus from the main steelery A.L. Colombo in order to concentrate solely on high-performance cycling tubing.
The result has been the history of cycling as we know it, from the legendary tubesets Air, Max, SL, SLX, Genius and Spirit tubesets, to multiple Giro d’Italia, Tour de France wins, till Olympic golds and hour records riding with top teams and world class legendary athletes.
Nowadays Columbus is redefining the new generation of the hi-tech hi-performing steel tubing production and development, supporting the heritage craftmanship of framebuilding art from the artisan scale to the mot advanced OE production, completing its offer with the totally renewed Futura carbon forks range suitable for any style of riding.
Although the Enigma story started just 11 years ago the roots of the business go back almost half a century to when company founder Jim Walker was given his first bike by his Dad. It was a second hand and well used steel thoroughbred that his father bought from a relative for a couple of pounds and the bike was adorned with a very distinctive white, red and green colour scheme. The colours were not to everyone’s taste but they were loved by Jim and can still be found in a slightly more modern style on his bikes to this day.
Jim’s love affair with cycling and cycles started that day and he has been lucky enough to work with bikes within the bicycle industry almost his entire working life. It would be fair to assume that after almost 50 years Jim’s passion for cycling would have dimmed, but nothing could be further from the truth and his love of the bike and the industry is as strong as it has ever been. Enigma is the ultimate embodiment of his desire to build beautiful bikes here in Britain.

The original Selle Anatomica saddle was designed based on Tommy Milton’s uncomfortable experience on a traditional leather saddle. In search of a solution to discomfort he decided to conduct his own research into the medical issues associated with bicycle seats. He identified why this discomfort existed from an anatomical standpoint and addressed the issue head on. Through medical research, iterative design, and several prototypes Tommy finally reached the solution to discomfort. Tommy’s original design continues to withstand the test of time and today his saddles are handmade right here in the USA. Family owned and run Selle Anatomica continues to innovate for a more comfortable future. Our goal is to get you into the most comfortable saddle so you can get moving.
